This announcement supplements Engineering Bulletin 96-1, which modifies the application of the Hastings AF393 air filter on Ford 7.3 liter turbo diesel engines. Hastings Filters, Inc. developed the new AF994 air filter to be used in these engines. The new Hastings AF994 air filter has a unique sealing bead pattern to compensate for the differences in the housing designs used by Ford. The drawings below demonstrate the location of the sealing beads in each of these housings.

The Hastings AF994 supersedes the AF393 air filter. The AF994 is warranted as a replacement filter for the Motorcraft FA1617 in applications using either of these housing designs. Please make the necessary changes to your 1996 Hastings Filters catalog. Future catalogs will list the AF994 as the air filter for applications that previously used the AF393. Laboratory tests confirm that the new AF994 filter seals in either the F5TA-9600-AA or FTZ-9600-AA Ford air filter housing.
